Roger Hodgson is the voice of Supertramp. Co-founding the band in 1969, he was the lead singer and writer of nearly all their hits throughout the band’s heyday in the seventies and early eighties. Since leaving Supertramp in 1983 he has had a series of critically acclaimed and successful solo albums and come through a major accident in the late eighties that threatened his entire career. A new Supertramp best of “Retrospectacle” was released in 2006 and has sold over 600,000 copies in the UK alone. This DVD, the first live release from either Roger or Supertramp, was filmed in Montreal and catches Roger Hodgson at his very best.

In January 2007 a fantastic line-up of guests gathered at the Roundhouse in London to pay tribute to the late Jim Capaldi of Traffic and to raise money for his children’s charity The Landmark Trust. Old friends such as Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), Pete Townshend of The Who, Joe Walsh of The Eagles, Jon Lord of Deep Purple, Gary Moore, Dennis Locorriere of Dr Hook and of course his Traffic colleague Steve Winwood, were joined by younger admirers such as Paul Weller and The Storys to perform their favourite Traffic and Jim Capaldi tracks in front of a sell out audience. The evening was hosted by broadcasting legend “Whispering” Bob Harris.

Filmed on location at the Family Dog On The Great Highway in San Francisco in September 1970, this classic concert is a snapshot of the American psychedelia scene at the time and the San Francisco sound in particular. Originally made as a TV programme by renowned director Ralph J Gleason, one of the pioneers of American music TV, it features sets from Santana, The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane and a finale featuring members of all three bands.

Norman Granz presents Improvisation

In 1944 werkten Norman Granz en Gjon Mili samen aan een film over jazz muziek genaamd “Jammin’ The Blues”. Zeer succesvol en beloond met een Oscar voor Best Short Film, beschrijving op de IMDB: “Maybe the greatest film ever about jazz.” In 1950 werkten ze weer samen aan een film over jazz improvisaties die nooit voltooid werd. Dit materiaal is nu gecombineerd met ander filmmateriaal van jazz improvisaties geschoten door Norman Granz op verschillende plekken en tijdstippen om deze nieuwe film te maken met de titel: “Improvisation”.
