De kwestie Grindhouse

Waardeloos! Krijgen we nou 2 films van een uurtje? Of zijn ze los nog ook nog de moeite waard om voor naar de bios te gaan? Met Kill Bill was het nog te doen, omdat die zo'n 2 uur per stuk duurden.Hoe dan ook...ik denk er toch over om niet te gaan, hoe graag ik ze ook wil zien. Ik hoop ook dat de meeste mensen die hem willen zien toch niet naar de bios gaan. Mischien leren die lui er eens van!

één van de weinige films dit jaar die ik graag in de bios had willen zien, maar alleen zoals hij bedoeld was. Zo niet, dan fuck de Weinsteins.

Uit principe wil ik hem bannen maar ondanks dat gaat er gewoon niks boven de bioservaring.

Ik dacht dat het hele idee achter dit project was om de ervaring van de ouderwetse double feature op nieuw te kunnen beleven. Tarantino zei al dat je hiermee weer echt "een avond naar de film" ging, en niet een "stoel huren en dan zo snel mogelijk weer naar huis." Zelfs de trailer prijst de film aan als "twee films voor de prijs van één!"

En nu wordt het gesplitst in twee magere vertoningen van 90 minuten?

In de UK niet. Daar wordt hij uitgebracht als 1 film... Dus iedereen naar daar... Ik wacht wel op de DVD of importeer hem desnoods...

GRINDHOUSE is, simply put, one of the most exuberant theatrical experiences I’ve had in quite some time, and I plan to see it at least twice more while it’s in theaters. I look forward to whatever “restored editions” are going to arrive down the road, but I adore this particular configuration, and if you walk into it knowing what to expect, ready for this ride, I’m willing to bet you will, too.

Grindhouse is a theatrical experience that I’d love to see more of provided it doesn’t turn into a second-rate Masters of Horror (which would still be a step-up.) But for now, bargains don’t get much better than this.

Step right up for two movies for the price of one: Death Proof, directed and written by Quentin (Pulp Fiction) Tarantino, and Planet Terror, directed and written by Robert (Sin City) Rodriguez. It's no sucker punch. Tarantino and Rodriguez rock it. Grindhouse is a double dose of lowdown, dirty, blood-splattering fun that pummels you with sluts, slashers, serial killers, zombies and killer cars that all serve to reveal a soul of the purest scuzz. There is not a minute in this three-hour-plus tribute to all that's unholy in cinema that is good for you.

Grindhouse feels like what it is: a night at the movies, one that's eminently disposable and still a night to remember.

Wrapped up neatly in a 185-minute bow, "Grindhouse" is as pure a theatrical experience as they could possibly make in today's in-and-get-out marketplace. It's a heavily stylized, volatile, atomic sensory shockwave that is so hip and ice cool, you'll need to visit MySpace just to bring your overall awesome back down to a manageable level.

If you’re in on the bit, you absolutely won’t have more fun watching anything in a movie theater this year. Watching it in a theater is key though. There’s no way this works on DVD. Grindhouse is all about atmosphere, and you can’t get atmosphere at home on your couch. Get up off your ass and buy a ticket.



Doet me pijn om te lezen wat we toch allemaal gaan missen vanwege een erg jammerlijke keuze van de filmindustrie.

In een interview met Robert Rodriguez en Quentin Tarantino op aint it cool hebben ze het ook over de international release;

MJ: I understand with the international release the films are gonna be released separately but with extra footage. So what’s going to happen with the trailers and what is that extra footage?

RR: Well our scripts, originally, the idea was to do something like 65-minute movies each, but our scripts ended up being really long so I said well let’s shoot the whole thing and then on DVD we can put out long versions when we put out the movies, we might put them out separately first on DVD. And then it turns out internationally some countries just didn’t get the grindhouse concept. The distributors just didn’t want the double feature, they wanted them in single pictures, so we thought oh well that’s a good way to include all that extra stuff we had shot cuz Quentin shot all of his missing reel and he has another half hour of his that makes everything just make even more sense, so um, we just had to cut a tighter version to do it as a double bill I cut my down to like 86 when it’s really like a probably 98 minutes, there’s probably another 15 minutes in it. I just trimmed it way down so people wouldn’t feel like they were done for the night and ready to go home so I had to cut mine tighter so all that will be in for the international so in the international release, if you go see Planet Terror there’ll be Machete and maybe one other trailer, and then my movie in its full version will play and then when you go see Quentin’s it’ll have Thanksgiving and Werewolf Women of the SS probably and then his full movie.

Hij is overigens tegenvallend geopend in de USA. Staat op een 4e plaats met de slechtste cijfers per screen.

Ik mis de optie: na Kill Bill kan die hele QT me gestolen worden, dus ik hoefde hem toch al niet te zien Vond dat opsplitsen al zo'n belachelijk geldklopperij, en vervolgens dat grapje van het niet in 1 versie uitbrengen op DVD, wat mij betreft heeft ie compleet afgedaan.

Neuh ik ga ook niet 2 keer 8,50 betalen... ookal is ie nog zo vet. Ga sowieso wel de DVD kopen als er een special van komt en waar dan ook natuurlijk beide films (+ trailers) opstaan. En ja... ook downloaden...

Ik ga gewoon naar de bios maar betaal niet dubbel aangezien ik een Pathe Unlimited Pas heb.

De film heet niotabene Grindhouse. In 2en splitsen doet de hele ervaring teniet.

Het is dat ik in Londen woon en die hier waarschijnlijk wel in 2 delen verschijnt. Anders had ik 'm overgeslagen.

Toch vreemd hoor dat de box office zo tegenvalt. Je zou toch verwachten dat zowel QT als Rodriguez een flinke horde fans hebben die dit sowieso zouden gaan kijken. Blijkbaar overschat ik hun populariteit? Kan moeilijk geloven dat de releasedatum echt zoveel uitmaakt, The Reaping doet het deze week toch ook niet slecht als horrorfilm die uitkomt in het Paasweekend.

Anyway, ik ga de double feature versie eens downloaden, want ik begin langzaamaan ook te twijfelen of ik hem zo beter ga vinden dan beide films apart.
