Antichrist

SYNOPSIS:

Lars von Trier shook up the film world when he premiered Antichrist at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. In this graphic psychodrama, a grief-stricken man and woman—a searing Willem Dafoe and Cannes best actress Charlotte Gainsbourg—retreat to a cabin deep in the woods after the accidental death of their infant son, only to find terror and violence at the hands of nature and, ultimately, each other. America Lost and Found: The BBS Story

SYNOPSIS:

Like the rest of America, Hollywood was ripe for revolution in the late sixties. Cinema attendance was down; what had once worked seemed broken. Enter Bob Rafelson, Bert Schneider, and Steve Blauner, who knew that what Hollywood needed was new audiences—namely, young people—and that meant cultivating new talent and new ideas. Fueled by money made from their invention of the superstar TV pop group the Monkees, they set off on a film-industry journey that would lead them to form BBS Productions, a company that was also a community. The innovative films produced by this team between 1968 and 1972 are collected in this box set—works created within the studio system but lifted right out of the countercultural id, and that now range from the iconic (Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, The Last Picture Show) to the acclaimed (The King of Marvin Gardens) to the obscure (Head; Drive, He Said; A Safe Place).

Ik heb Antichrist toevallig net gezien en ik vind hem zeker de moeite waard! Echter....de UK versie heeft exact dezelfde extra's (minus het boekje) en die heb ik vrij voordelig kunnen kopen. De vraag is dan of je er veel meer geld voor over hebt omdat er Criterion op staat?

Night of the Hunter is wel smullen...op Blu-Ray!!!

De Engelse heeft geen ondertitels (ik wil graag Engelse) en Criterion biedt exclusieve extra's. Ik heb expres de Duitse of Engelse Chaplin-releases niet gekocht omdat ik verwachtte dat Criterion zou uitpakken. Ben een beetje teleurgesteld dat ze met maar één titel komen, en ook niet enorm onder de indruk van de extra's. Ik denk dat ik (hoewel ik een enorme Chaplin-fan ben) toch even de reactie van Dvdbeaver en Blu-ray.com afwacht voor dat ik mijn keuze maak. Er is ook nog geen editie van de chaplinfilms die alle extra's van de Mk2-dvd uitgaven bevat...

Mijn bestellinkje uit de Barnes&Noble-actie arriveerde gisteren. Mystery train en Black narcissus, The red shoes was helaas door B&N gecancelled. Ik heb Black Narcissus gisteren meteen gekeken. Het was de vierde keer dat ik de film zag, en toch voelde het alsof ik hem voor het eerst zag. Ik ben zo ontzettend onder de indruk! Ben nu alle extra's aan het bekijken, en alleen al het interview met Bertrand Tavernier over de film en Michael Powell is de moeite van de aanschaf waard. Ik had de Engelse BD-uitgave van de film al in huis, maar heb echt het gevoel dat de Criterion beter is. Misschien beeld ik het me in, maar ik heb het idee dat de Criterion scherper is en dat de kleurenfluctuaties die mij stoorden in de Engelse BD-versie minder aanwezig zijn in de Criterion. Dit is trouwens de mooiste technicolor film ooit, volgens mij. Mooier nog dan Gone with the Wind qua kleurgebruik.
Dus nu ga ik The red shoes-criterion maar weer voor de volle mep bestellen bij dvdpacific. En ik kreeg net bericht dat Michael Powell's The Edge of the World BD op de post is bij blahdvd (nog geen 16 euro!), dus die heb ik overmorgen in huis...

Bij de Chaplin-films wil ik echt de beste uitgave, en dan is beeldkwaliteit het allerbelangrijkst. Het prijsverschil merk je één keertje, maar elke keer dat je de film bekijkt zie je de kwaliteit...

Deze box is GEWELDIG! The Docks of New York is een van de allerbeste silent movies die ik ooit gezien heb. Ik heb er een hoop gezien.
