Weer slecht nieuws over The hobbit. Het faillisement van MGM zou mogelijk consequenties kunnen hebben voor de financiering van de films. Zie dit artikel voor wat opmerkingen daarover.

Het zit deze films ook niet mee. Iedere keer is er weer wat.

Misschien lees ik niet goed, maar ik zie in het hele stuk nergens problemen benoemd die zouden ontstaan.

Mooi dat hij ook aan boord is, hopelijk komt hij weer met een aantal prachtige composities.
Wacht nog op het moment dat McKellen en Serkis zich ook definitief zich verbinden.

RED Studios Hollywood announced today that The Hobbit films will be shot in 3D using the upcoming EPIC Digital Cameras:

RED announces that Peter Jackson's two film adaptation of The Hobbit will be shot in 3D using RED DIGITAL CINEMA'S soon to be released EPIC Digital Cameras.

The successor to RED's industry changing RED ONE, the EPIC has 5K resolution, can shoot up to 120 frames per second and has a new HDRx™ mode for the highest dynamic range of any digital cinema camera ever made. Taking everything they had learned from building their first camera, RED designed the EPIC from scratch and have produced a smaller, lighter camera that is an order of magnitude more powerful.

The Hobbit will be amongst the first productions in the world to use the EPIC and at least thirty cameras will be required by the 3-D production. The EPIC'S small size and relatively low weight, makes it perfect for 3-D - where two cameras have to be mounted on each 3D rig.

Jackson has a long history with RED, dating back to when he directed the short film 'Crossing the Line' as a very early test of prototype RED ONE cameras. "I have always liked the look of Red footage." he says, "I'm not a scientist or mathematician, but the image Red produces has a much more filmic feel than most of the other digital formats. I find the picture quality appealing and attractive, and with the Epic, Jim and his team have gone even further. It is a fantastic tool, the Epic not only has cutting edge technology, incredible resolution and visual quality, but it is also a very practical tool for film makers. Many competing digital systems require the cameras to be tethered to large cumbersome VTR machines. The Epic gives us back the ability to be totally cable free, even when working in stereo."

Jim Jannard the owner and founder of RED flew to New Zealand earlier this year with members of his team so that Jackson could test the EPIC and assess its suitability. "Everybody at RED is incredibly proud that Peter has chosen the Epic" says Jannard, "The Hobbit is a major production, and could have chosen any camera system that they wanted. The fact that they went with us is extremely gratifying."

The Hobbit will start shooting in New Zealand early next year.

Het is dan ook al lang bekend dat Peter Jackson met name het verhaal rond Gandalf - die in het boek 80% van de tijd niet aanwezig is - veel meer aandacht zal gaan geven om zodoende de opkomst van Sauron (de Necromancer) meer aan bod te laten komen en dus ook die binding met LOTR te versterken. Daarom zullen ook Galadriel en Legolas terugkeren. Gelukkig zijn het wel keuzes die in Tolkien's wereld legitiem zou kunnen zijn en niet uit de duim gezogen.

Mwah, bij dat van Bloom spelen zeker ook financiele aspecten mee; hij zal garant staan voor vrouwen die de film omwille van hem willen zien.

Van mij hoeft die kul niet zo; gewoon het boek verfilmen zonder allemaal aanpassingen.

Het is een kinderboek, natuurlijk gaan ze dat dus niet doen. De film heeft spektakel en herkenbaarheid nodig om een zo groot mogelijk publiek te trekken (en dus zoveel mogelijk geld op te laten brengen). De anticipatie voor deze film is inmiddels zo groot dat het publiek verwacht een LOTR achtige film voorgeschoteld te krijgen en ik denk dat PJ en co. daar ook naar streven om dat op het scherm te krijgen, alles zal uit de kast gehaald worden om van the Hobbit een van de grootste avonturenfilms ooit te maken.

Tja, Legolas op de achtergrond bij z'n vader zou kunnen. Verder zou de White Council wel interessant zijn, ik denk dat dat er ook in komt. Dat geeft wel een rol aan Galadriel

Wellicht wat spoilers voor sommige:

Elijah Wood keert terug als Frodo in Hobbit films!

As readers of “The Hobbit” know, the tale of “The Downfall of The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit or There and Back Again,” are contained in the fictional “Red Book of Westmarch.” In Peter Jackson’s LOTR films, the books are shown on screen and written in by Bilbo and Frodo and handed off to Sam Gamgee. (Not explained on film are Sam’s progeny later having the book and being Wardens of the Westmarch — hence the book’s title.)

The fictional book, and either the telling from it or the reading of it, will establish Frodo in the films experiencing Bilbo’s story. Viewers to learn the tale of ‘The Hobbit’ with a familiar Frodo getting the tale as well.

Since the speculation is now everywhere around the interwebs, TORn can confirm that as of now, the plans are to feature Frodo in the opening sequence of the films. It is unlikely that studio Warner Bros. or Team Jackson would change the script at this point in response to the web buzz so we may have just “spoiled” December 2012 for some, but we warned you. (And, sat on the spoiler until leaks started to appear!)

In februari schijnen de opnames al te beginnen. Ik ben heel erg benieuwd. De verfilming van LOTR kon alleen maar tegenvallen en deed dat allerminst. Dus ik ben niet zo bang dat The Hobbit tegen gaat vallen. De verhalen van The Hobbit en LOTR bevat niet alleen de boeken zelf, maar ook de geschiedenis die er omheen geschreven is, dus die kun je dus ook in de films bewerken.

Sir Christopher Returns in The Hobbit

Slowly but surely, Peter Jackson has managed to secure the return of the majority of the major stars from The Lord of the Rings franchise for his soon to be shooting prequel, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

Sir. Christopher Lee had been in talks to reprise his role as the wizard Saruman and it now looks certain, providing that he is in good health, that he will be appearing in the movie.

TheOneRing.net meldt dat dit op de officiële site van Lee staat.

Ik mag hopen dat ze zijn scènes het eerst filmen, waarschijnlijk in Londen want de beste man kan niet meer naar N-Zeeland komen.
